Uncovering the best family holidays

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

June - July 2012

We visited KL for the first time last year and I fell in love with the shopping and the city, while Josh fell in love with the islands. Add those two things together with cheap accommodation and food and we knew this would be a destination we would love to live in.

Kuala Lumpur is the federal capital and most populous city in Malaysia. The city covers an area of 243 km2 (94 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 1.6 million as of 2012. Greater Kuala Lumpur, also known as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.2 million. It is among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the country, in terms of population and economy.

April 2014

We had only 3 days to spend in one of our favourite cities in the world on the way to Malta.

One of the hallmarks of our travels is eating where the locals eat. I find that it can be one of the easiest and quickest ways to connect with the local culture and get a deeper understanding of it. So when we were in Kuala Lumpur we knew we had to try some winning Malay, Indian and Chinese dishes. This time we enlisted a secret source to help us track down the best local eateries. Find out how we did it and the one mistake we made.

10 Things To Do With Kids In KL

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our first trip to KL with the children was so different to our first trip last year without them. To be honest it was more fun, there are so many things you have an “excuse” to do when you have kids. Here is compilation of the top attractions we visited in KL in order. If you have less time then leave the bottom 2 off.

What Is It About Elephants? Kuala Ghanda Elephant Sanctuary

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our visit to Deerland, Kuala Ghanda & Chamang Waterfalls. As I stepped into the warm water, I could not see the bottom. The water was brown, who knew what was in there other than the floating missiles from the elephant? But as I jumped on top of little Alam, the elephant and sat on his bare back and people splashed us and cheered I could only be in that moment. I sat bareback and could feel his skin on mine. I came down low and hugged his neck.

Our 1st Blogging Event @ Frontera

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Recently I mentioned the great service I had from Food Panda. While writing on their Facebook wall I mentioned I would blog about them. They immediately asked if I would like to be part of their blogging events, which I confirmed not thinking much of it. Within one week I had an invitation to 3 different dinners at 3 different restaurants. This is the tale of our very first blogging event.

Nothing prepares you for this playground, it seems to stretch for miles, and as a matter of fact it actually covers 2 acres. Next to it is also a public wading pool with waterfall and toilets. The 2 acres is part of a 50-acre park in total. It's home of the Petronis Towers, Suria Shopping Mall & the Petrosains Discovery Centre - read more...

    Dentists, Fear & Therapy

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

None of us sees the world as it is because we can only see it through our lens. In a sense, we're all delusional. If you believe that everything happens for a reason, you must find that reason and turn those experiences that threaten to detonate in your life into a useful energy source that empowers you and others. How does my daughter view her birth? The dentist? Her fears?

Little People in a Little World - KidZania

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

If you have kids, KidZania is a must. KidZania currently operates in 10 locations around the world. The Kuala Lumpur one opened in June 2012 and is located at The Curve shopping centre. Once inside children “work” in adult jobs and earn currency. It is a child-sized replica of a real city, including buildings, shops and theaters, as well as vehicles and pedestrians moving along its streets. It is a little world for little people.

  • Batu Caves & Scary Monkeys

    Batu Caves & Scary Monkeys

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

As I faced down the monkey who finally shifted his greedy eyes from my daughter’s ice-cream to me I knew one thing – if anyone was getting bitten it was me. Teeth barred a hiss escaped his lips, while mine was more like a “shoo, shoo.” Finally as he stepped towards me, the Indian shopkeeper came running, yelling and waving his arms at the monkey. Giving one last hiss the hairy, big-balled creature retreated back down the stairs. We stepped back into the shadows and the safe arms of the Indian’s little shop.
