Josh met Fabrice in Finland. He’s an influential French travel blogger who’s blog slogan is “Take the plunge”. How does his Living The Dream match our other interviewees?
What was the first country you visited? Who with and why did you choose it?
My first real experience was at 22 years old. I went to London with my best friend to live here some months. Many young French people are doing the same thing to learn English for some months. Finding a job is or was quit easy. I spent here great times!
When did you start a travel lifestyle? What inspired that change?
There were 2 steps.
First, after more than one year in Nigeria to work, I cross west Africa by motorbike. It was such a great trip ! And it was for me like a mystic travel. You know, this kind of trip who change you. After, your life can”t be the same like before. After, I spent some years trying to manage long term travel and work in Paris.
Second, in 2009, after a long term travel in Asia, I came back again in France. But, this time, I was tired about this life: find another job. I got the sensation to lost my time. Really, it’s not a pleasant sensation. So, at this time, I was thinking a lot about how to make an income by traveling.
I lunch Instinct Voyageur in 2010. It was maybe the first French travel blog built to make an income to travel the world.
It was one of my best decisions in my life . Since, I never go the sensation to lost my time !
Do you have a base you travel from? Or is it continuous travel? And why do you choose that style?
I have 2 bases . One very close to Paris when i’m in Europe 4, 5 months per year. And one in Colombia since 3 years. I like the country and it’s a good base to travel south america.
I’m not sure traveling all the time, for a long time, is for me. By the past, i did it. Now, i enjoy also stay some months in a nice place with nice people. Moreover, the contact with my family and my friends in France is important. So, i try to manage, not easy…
I’m a professional travel blogger since some years. Sometime, i need to focus on some projects. To be efficient, you need time and certain monotony. I like also this part !
How do you fund your travel lifestyle? Is it something you do when travelling or are you a saver?
Well, as I’m a professional travel blogger, my blog is my activities. My incomes come from partnership and my travel ebooks. But, since a long time, I’m a fan of the minimalist lifestyle !
If you could tell yourself one tip before you started your travel lifestyle, what would it be?
Maybe: do things thoroughly. I mean at the beginning, I heisted a lot to follow my intuition to travel more. It was just a fear and a lost of time.
What does "Living The Dream" mean to you?
The slogan of my blog is : take the plunge !
That’s a way to follow all his life, specially to live your dreams. The dreams have to become memories.
