Jason & Simone
What was the first country you visited? Who with and why did you choose it?
On this RTW trip our first county was Canada. We headed up to Vancouver for 2 nights before taking our Alaskan Cruise with Jason’s parents. We barely scratched the surface though and would love to head back.
When did you start a travel lifestyle? What inspired that change?
We both love to travel and always tried to do weekend trips and day trips when we were back home. We took the big leap and decided to travel full time (at least for a year!) after we started to look for a home to buy. Having both owned homes in the past, we quickly came to the conclusion that we would much rather take that money and do some serious traveling. So thats what we did!
Do you have a base you travel from? Or is it continuous travel? And why do you choose that style?
In July of 2013 we sold most of our “stuff” including 2 vehicles and moved out of the house we were renting in Napa, California. We still consider Napa home even though we had only been there about 3 years. Since we were renting it made perfect sense to just purge, get rid of all our bills and take off.
How do you fund your travel lifestyle? Is it something you do when travelling or are you a saver?
We saved for almost 2 years. Jason worked a ton of overtime and at one point Simone was working 3 jobs! We didn’t want to have to work while on the road. We will likely have to head “home” soon to start saving for our next adventure.
If you could tell yourself one tip before you started your travel lifestyle, what would it be?
Full time travel is very different than a vacation. It took us a while to get into the right mindset. It was hard to be on a tight budget and not do some of the things we were used to doing while on vacation. Once we understood the difference we found ways to compromise, live local and enjoy the down time.
What does 'Living The Dream' mean to you?
We are truly living our dream right now! For us this means getting out and exploring the world, meeting amazing people, trying new foods and living each day to the fullest.
