Traveling to Egypt could be the experience of a lifetime! After all, there’s so much history and beauty to see and so many things to do. From the pyramids to a Nile River cruise to the Egyptian museum, there’s plenty to do and see to make travel worthwhile.
Egypt may seem very far away, but visiting there doesn’t have to be difficult or stressful. Here’s what travelers need to know to get the most out of their trip to this amazing country.
A Visa to Egypt
Visitors to Egypt will need a visa to enter the country. The easiest way to get this is to apply online. All travelers need is their valid passport, the address where they will be staying while in Egypt, and a credit or debit card to pay the application fee. While travelers can still get a visa upon arrival in Egypt, there are usually long lines and extended wait times for this service. Checking Egypt’s visa policy is a great idea.
Travelers who apply online for their Egypt eVisa will receive a PDF copy of their approved visa by email after the application has been reviewed by the Egyptian government. They will need to print off a high-quality copy of this document and store it with their travel papers. They should be ready to show this upon arrival in Egypt.
A Valid Passport
All travelers to Egypt will need a valid passport from their home country. This includes passports for any children or dependents who are traveling, as well as for every adult.
Each passport must meet the following criteria:
- It must be valid on the day that the person enters Egypt
- It must remain valid throughout the traveler’s stay in Egypt
- It must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the visitor’s arrival day in Egypt
Travelers who do not have passports that meet these criteria will need to get one before they can get a visa or enter Egypt.
A Negative COVID-19 Test
The Egyptian government currently asks all travelers to present evidence of a negative PCR and/or serology test for COVID-19. People visiting from Japan, China, Thailand, North America, South America, Paris, London Heathrow, and Frankfurt will need to show the results of a test taken within 96 hours before their flight left home. Travelers from all other countries will need to show negative results of the same kind/s of tests taken within 72 hours of flight departure.
This rule applies to all travelers except children under the age of 6. Travelers to Sharm El Sheikh may arrive without these test results. If they do so, however, they will be tested at the airport upon arriving and will need to quarantine until the test results come back. If those results are positive, the person will be required to isolate themselves for 14 days. Natvisa.com is informing travelers on current entry policies.
A Detailed Itinerary
A detailed itinerary will help travelers in more ways than one! First of all, travelers need these details to get a visa to enter Egypt, as outlined above.
Secondly, Egyptian immigration agents may require visitors to show their itinerary in order to enter the country. While this is not terribly common, agents may screen these randomly or, if there is any confusion, they may want to see it to clear that up.
Finally, having a detailed itinerary before travel means that visitors are more likely to see everything they want to see while they are in Egypt. It allows them to make sure that everything important to them is included and that they have plenty of time to make the trip they want to make.
A Plan
In general, visitors to Egypt should have a solid plan in place before they travel. This includes:
A transportation plan - Many visitors do not want to drive while they are in Egypt, so they will need to make sure that they have a way to get to and from the airport and a way to get to all of the sites they want to see. They may also need to ensure that they have transportation between hotels or other destinations while in Egypt.
A trustworthy guide or set of guides - In order to get the most out of travel in Egypt, visitors will want to make sure they have knowledgeable guides who speak their own language. They may want to join a tour group or set up guides for each site individually. Either way, they should research and plan this before they arrive to ensure guide availability and to make the best use of their time in Egypt.
An itinerary that makes sense - Travelers should not only make a list of where and what they want to visit in Egypt, but they should also ensure that they know which sites are close to each other, which ones are best accessed from which city, and other related details.
Plenty of transit time - Depending on where travelers are going, getting around Egypt can take longer than getting around at home does. Travelers will want to make sure that they give themselves plenty of time to move between destinations so they don’t spend their trip hurried, harried, and frustrated.
A Knowledge of the Rules
Travelers should familiarize themselves with Egypt’s rules before they travel. This includes rules pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also includes basic laws and cultural rules. They don’t need to take a course or anything - some basic internet searches should tell travelers what they need to know so they don’t end up committing any faux pas or, even worse, getting arrested.
