The Hidden Gems of Provence

To be fair, Provence is famous, but not as one of the top places in the French Riviera, that’s why you can find more places that aren't so crowded and still offer a unique experience.

Despite not being as popular as the blue coast, you can still easily find a luxury villa rental in Provence, and enjoy its lavender fields and picturesque villages, but keep in mind that there is much more to discover.

Here are some hidden gems:

1. Gordes: A Medieval Village

I’m surprised by how many people miss this place, not only that, but many times you can’t even find it on lists like “top places to visit in Provence”. But don’t let that fool you, Gordes is one of the most stunning villages in France, it's packed with cobblestone streets, and stone houses.

The first thing you need to do is stroll through its streets, check out the Château de Gordes and enjoy the panoramic views from the top of the village.

2. Roussillon: Colorful Village

A well-known town that doesn’t get the visits it deserves, it still feels very local. Roussillon is known for its ochre and red facades, and that makes a great contrast with the green of the surrounding forests. It’s a unique place to check out.

You will be able to visit the Ochre Quarries and enjoy a hike along the Ochre Trail, where the colours of the earth will leave you speechless. There are also many lavender fields to visit around, as well as other typical French towns.

3. Les Baux-de-Provence: A Village with History

A medieval village is something we all must experience at least once in our lifetime, and there’s no better option than Les Baux-de-Provence, it’s built on top of a rocky hill. Depending on the time of the year, the town looks like it blends with the rock!

But the best draw is the spectacular views of the surroundings the town offers. Not only that, you can explore the castle ruins and visit the Carrières de Lumières, which is a former quarry that was converted into a sound and light show.

Hidden Gems of the French Riviera

The French Riviera is synonymous with glamour, and it’s not a secret that it gets a TON of visitors each year, but don’t worry! it also has secret corners that will surprise you.

So, if you’re planning to visit the French Riviera, make sure you check out one of those places:

1. Èze: Best Views of the Mediterranean

Here, on the back of it you have the Parc départemental Grande Corniche and its many incredible hikes and to the front side you have the Mediterranean Sea and its stunning views!

Yes, Èze is a small medieval village that was built on top of a cliff, that’s why its views are unmatched. But that’s not it, you can visit the Exotic Garden and enjoy a walk through its cobbled streets that are full of shops and art galleries.

2. Villefranche-sur-Mer: A Jewel Near Nice

Everyone knows Nice and many people visit it each year, but Villefranche-sur-Mer is just a few miles away from it and doesn’t even get 5% of the attention.

It has a unique vibe to it, very local and small coastal town. It may be less known than the city but it is just as charming.

Its biggest attraction is its pebble beaches where you can relax or take a swim, but whatever you do, make sure to stroll along its picturesque harbour filled with colourful boats.

3. Saint-Paul-de-Vence: A Haven for Artists

This medieval town has been a haven for artists such as Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. Make sure you visit the Maeght Foundation, a modern art museum, and stroll through its streets filled with galleries and workshops.

While it’s often regarded as one of the most stunning towns in France, it’s usually not as crowded as other places, and you have the Plateau de Saint Barnabé really close!
