Josh and I love a good romantic spot. And I love that John has combined the traditional Paris with some out of the box places. Where would you go with your loved one, if you could celebrate anywhere in the world?
Whether you get to travel for a living or have to save up time to take off on your journeys, using your anniversary as a reason to adventure somewhere new is always a great idea. Check out these romantic destination spots and start planning the anniversary trip of your dreams.
Cinque Terre
I don’t know if there’s a place more romantic than Cinque Terre. This beautiful portion of the Italian Riviera is not to be missed. Walk through town after town hand in hand and gasp at the gorgeous views. Wander around the main strips in each village to take in local vendors and cuisine (and admittedly, quite a few other tourists) and jump into the blue ocean waters surrounding this gorgeous city. There are plenty of beaches to lay out on, and you’ll have a hard time resisting the allure of the refreshing waves that gently crash against the shore. You’d be remiss to skip the various walking trails that will afford you with gorgeous views, so pack those hiking boots before heading out.
Belize
You can’t go wrong with a romantic trip to Belize. This island country is rife with sandy beaches, crystalline waters, and plenty to do when you’re not lounging on the sand. There are four main beaches in the area, but Ambergris Caye is arguably the most popular, and definitely sees its fair share of tourists. While you’re there, strap on the snorkel mask and take a look at the beautiful underwater world of the gorgeous reefs lining the beaches. Take advantage of gorgeous rainforest hikes, and once you’ve worked up some hunger, check out the amazing, fresh seafood available.

Paris, France
I couldn’t leave Paris off the list. This gorgeous city is renowned for its romantic atmosphere, but in my opinion, the true magic comes when you steer clear of the tourist-packed locales and focus on the small, lesser visited areas. Sit on the banks of the Seine with a bottle of wine and a self-made picnic of bread and cheese, or walk aimlessly up and down the streets of the Latin Quarter. While this might not seem like the most romantic destination, the Père Lachaise Cemetery has a dreamy aura and its own type of beauty that can’t be explained, only experienced. While there, pay your respects to Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and romantic crooner Edith Piaf. If the two of you are history buffs, you’ll be surprised at how many names you recognize in this gorgeous old cemetery. There’s no limit to the amount of things you can see and get into in this romance mecca, so give yourself plenty of time in this gorgeous city.
Chamonix Mont Blanc
A lesser known French destination spot, Chamonix is a resort area that borders France, Switzerland, and Italy. If the two of you are skiers, you’ll definitely want to put this one on your list. A quiet vacation spot, you can stay in a boutique hotel at the foot of the Alps (gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe the views), and for adventure, hitch a ride on the Aiguille du Midi Cable Car to the top of the Alps. Once you reach the top, you’ll watch as brave adventurers don their warmest snow gear and head out on the icy slopes. You’ll also be afforded views of all three aforementioned countries, not to mention see the town you left 2747 meters below. This is truly an out of body experience, and not to be missed if you find yourself in this region.
St. Lucia
Adventure, relaxation, and exotic views all rolled into one—yup, that sums St. Lucia up. Looking to really splurge? Filling up your itinerary in St. Lucia isn’t a hard task; check out Smugglers Cove, the Millet Bird Sanctuary, or take a dip in the Sulphur Springs for starters. Book accommodations at The Ladera Resort. Their suites offer an open wall feature, meaning you’re protected from the elements but able to appreciate the views and nature in luxury. You can dip in the private plunge pool or shuttle to the beach each day to dip your toes in the sand. Definitely a gorgeous spot that knows how to up the romance ante.

Special Touches
No matter where you choose for your destination anniversary trip, putting special touches into your plans is sure to make your spouse feel cherished. Before you leave, grab an anniversary gift and be sure to hide it well within your luggage, call your hotel beforehand and see if they can put out a special spread in your room in honor of the occasion, and plan surprise excursions that your sweetheart will never see coming.
John and is wife, Cara have been travelling as a couple since their 20's. Every anniversary is a new and exciting opportunity to explore somewhere else in the world and to fall in love all over again.
