Everyone knows how much we love beaches, we've been in summer coming on 3 years now. It's getting cold here in Ireland, the coldest we've ever been so perhaps it's time for us to spend the winter in Tenerife?
Are you looking for somewhere warm to go this winter? A place where you can escape the chilly streets and hit the sunny beach in your swimsuit?
Then Tenerife is the perfect place for you. The average temperature during the winter months is 16 degrees, which is rather pleasant when compared to the freezing temperatures of Britain.
As the largest of the Canary Islands,Tenerife has something for everybody - from stunning natural scenery to lively nightlife venues. The landscape includes spectacular beaches, lush forests, breathtaking coastlines, volcanoes, mountains, deserts and more. Tenerife's unique climate means there's a remarkably diverse range of wildlife and vegetation.
Whether you're traveling alone or on a family getaway, this beautiful island is a great choice. Tenerife also offers easy access to several other Canary Islands, which are only a few hours away by ferry.
There are many things to see and do in Tenerife, meaning the island is a great spot for tourists of all ages and interests. Here are some of the highlights:
Scuba Diving and Watersports in Tenerife
The island is renowned as one of the best places for scuba diving. Even in the winter, the warm blue water is perfect for diving. You'll have the opportunity to see dolphins, whales, turtles, stingrays, barracudas, eels, octopus, and schools of tropical fish. You'll also be able to see underwater volcanic rock formations, caverns, coral reefs and other wondrous sights. These waters are also perfect for riding jetskis, speedboats, surfing and other water sports.
Hit the Beach in Tenerife
Relax on one of the spectacular beaches. Playa Americas and Los Cristianos are both popular options, and you'll see plenty of palm trees, luscious sand, sun beds and serene turquoise water that's perfect for a swim.
Take in the Mountain Views
Visit El Teide, the 12,198ft mountain. A cable car can take you almost to the top, where you can enjoy the stunning vista and some great hiking. Strong winds are common at this altitude, especially during the winter, so be sure to dress warmly.
Get Cultured
In traditional Canarian towns, such as La Laguna and La Orotava, you'll find incredible architecture, museums, traditional houses, friendly locals and more. Around the holidays, these towns are also a great place to experience festivals, parties and other celebrations.
Food and Drink in Tenerife
Tenerife also offers many great places for food and drinks. One of the local specialities is papas arrugadas, a black potato which is usually served unpeeled with a unique dipping sauce. And don't forget to check out the many options for authentic paella and tapas. For drinks, try barraquito, a coffee speciality made by layering sweet condensed milk, espresso and milk froth.
