Growing concern over climate change has led to an increased desire to travel more responsibly.
Global warming is naturally caused by carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trapping heat around Earth, but now the threat is uniquely manmade and accelerating quickly. As the impact of manmade greenhouse emissions grows more noticeable, so does the pertinence of eco-friendly solutions. Yes, the Earth may be getting hotter, but so is the idea of responsible travel.
Travellers are always on the move, but all that jetting around may have a serious impact on the climate. In fact, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization air travel causes the greatest carbon emissions, with automobiles coming in second. As a result, travellers are looking for more ways to reduce their carbon footprint as they roam, and megabus is helping them do it. It is not a plane. It is not a train. It is not a bus. It is megabus - the safe, convenient and affordable way to travel.
Luxurious, Affordable and Convenient
Take whatever image you have of bus travel and throw it away. Megabus is a different situation. This is ground transpiration done right. Connecting travellers from city to city, these luxury spacious motorcoaches are well maintained and come equipped with amenities you won’t even find on many trains, including free Wi-Fi, at-seat power outlets and panoramic windows. Travellers can feel free to work on the road or sit back and enjoy the passing views all from the comfort of their seat.
With bus stops all over the United States, Canada and United Kingdom, there are endless options for travel. Hundreds of routes from city to city make it super convenient to travel cross-country or short distances.
Surprisingly, this level of comfort, service and convenience does not come with a big price tag. Megabus is known for being relatively low-cost, with some fares as low as $1! With that kind of affordability there is no excuse why megabus shouldn’t be considered for any travel itinerary.
Eco-Friendly
Megabus is not only luxurious, affordable and convenient, it is also green! This eco-friendly form of transportation helps prevent single occupancy trips by transporting more than 50 million passengers over the last 10 years. In addition to taking millions of cars off the road, the buses are also outfitted with the GreenRoad system, which reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions. In fact, a couple that chooses megabus over an automobile or plane ride reduces their carbon footprint by 50 to 75%! That’s incredible and really does add up as more people decided to choose bus travel.
Not only does the GreenRoad system reduce emissions is also reduces accidents by giving necessary information to drivers to keep driving safely. For instance, the system detects hazardous manoeuvres, such as acceleration, braking, lane change, cornering and speeding. It then warns the drivers, giving them the opportunity to self-correct. It can also detect potentially dangerous routes before venturing into a serious situation.
Life is about choices. Any opportunity to choose to be eco-friendly is a good one. With Earth Month currently in full swing, there is no better time to book your first trip with megabus. Instead of booking that airline ticket, try embracing local travel this month. Practice eating locally, buying locally, and travelling to locations reachable by ground transport.
It is now more important than ever to travel responsibly and Megabus helps make it easy. With fares as low as a $1 and service to over 120 U.S cities, travellers can ride in comfort knowing that they are helping the environment. And with at-seat power outlets and free Wi-Fi, travelling with megabus is a no brainer for me.
The megabus Masterpiece Contest makes things even more interesting during Earth Month, by encouraging artists of all kinds to enter their eco-friendly inspired designs.
1 lucky winner will receive $1000 for art classes or more eco-friendly travel plus their artwork displayed on the side of a megabus. Click here to submit your own artwork and be part of it.

"I respond to every comment by direct private email. I look forward to your feedback" - Josh BenderThanks for sharing this article and insipiring for better travel practices. Ofcourse travel by train would have been a far preferred option from environmental footprint, but compared to private transportation or airplane, bus travel is a great alternative!
Thanks a lot for the article and for letting us know all about the wonderful Megabus :)
Great tips. We often made travelling plans with family and friends and prefer own vehicles for comfort but didn't think about the environment. Thanks for raising this awareness.
Now that's an amazing traveling option. Not only is it traveler-friendly, with the luxury and comfort, it is also eco-friendly. Great article!
I'm curious - what is your take on air travel emissions? Traveling the world typically provides a great appreciation for our planet, but paradoxically, the immense carbon emissions that come from flying also endanger our planet's future. As someone who loves travel, I find this paradox challenging. How do you deal with this issue, if it's on your radar? I find carbon offsets to be promising, although you have to be careful to find legitimate and effective offsets, but I'm interested in other ideas as well!
For long distance bus, and for the short car/taxi.
