I’ve heard of them many times. Fellow travellers claimed they made travel easier and more enjoyable. I didn’t understand. So I thought we’d give it a shot and started using eBags Packing Cubes. I can now see that all the attention was well deserved.
In the past, when we visited in a city for a couple nights, we would rummage through each suitcase looking for a particular item of clothing. And this would result in a lot of wasted time and frustration. There wasn’t much point completely unpacking everything into drawers and closets since everything would just be re-packed the next day.
Enter packing cubes. These little beauties make it easy to segment clothing and other items in a suitcase. So now we no longer have to wade through what feels like a mountain of clothing to find my son’s shorts. Who knew a little bag could bring so much happiness?
And to make life even easier, they come in several colours. So now Erin and I have our own set of blue and black packing cubes, and the kids have a red one each. Instead of unpacking an entire suitcase when we arrive in a hotel, we can just pull out our cubes in mere seconds and we’re done. All the clothes stay neat and tidy, they are easy to find and retrieve, and most importantly, these cubes almost eliminate stray clothes left on the floor – which, as a parent, drives me nuts – especially when we’re trying to rush out the door and those darn socks just refuse to be found.
The eBags packing cubes are really well designed. A handle strap provides an easy point to grab and pickup the packing cube. The partial mesh lid conveniently reveals the contents of each cube without resorting to opening. The zips are very rugged and feel solid, and are also easy to grab (very helpful for my big hands). The quality stitching provides peace of mind knowing that the bags won’t split open when you need them most. You really can feel confident to stuff as much as you can into each bag.
There’s a bit of a trick to getting the most efficient use of the space. Start by filling in 1 side, then zip up 2 sides of the cube leaving 1 small side open. From there just keep filling and filling, and the cube will expand. Rolling clothes will give you even more space than just regular ol’ flat folding. See how much we actually fit inside them in our Guerrilla Packing Tips.
You’re not limited to only use these babies on the road. They’re perfect around the house for organising toiletries, cosmetics, toys, magazines, just about anything really. We’re using 3 sets of 3 packing cubes (9 in total), but they’re also available individually in a range of sizes.
eBags Packing Cubes are really elegant, durable travel accessories that makes packing so much easier. Now when we’re asked for packing tips, we’ve turned into one of those raving fans who can’t stop talking about eBags. You’ve been warned!
